Rejection can sting, but it’s important not to take it personally. Here are some tips to help you cope and move forward after being rejected from a job.

  1. It’s Not Personal! Although it can feel personal, it’s not. There are so many factors when it comes to the hiring process, and many are out of your control as a job seeker.
  2. Send a Thank You Email. Working in staffing, we can confirm that sending a thank you to your recruiter and hiring managers is a great thing to do. It leaves a positive and lasting impression. This will also stay top of mind to people and they could consider you in the future because of this for other openings you are applicable for.
  3. Ask for Feedback. It is always a good idea to ask for feedback after being rejected from a job. Your recruiter or hiring manager should give you constructive feedback that will help you in your job search.
  4. Review Your Resume. Upon reviewing your cover letter, resume, and other application materials, consider if there are areas for improvement. Can you emphasize different experiences or skills that are better aligned with the position you applied for?
  5. Continue Your Job Search. Don’t let rejection discourage you from pursuing job opportunities that match your skills and experience. Keep approaching each opportunity with a fresh perspective.
  6. Utilize Your Network. Make connections in your industry or at companies of interest. Attend networking events and connect on LinkedIn. Building relationships can lead to job opportunities.
  7. Stay Positive. Job searching can be a challenging and lengthy process. It’s essential to stay positive, celebrate successes, and remain motivated to achieve your goals.
